Talking of which

This strange man is standing outside Parliament bedecked in a protest sign that reads "Denied the right to protest".

The strange man apparently has no ear for irony.

There's a serious point, although maybe this irony-bypassing man doesn't make it in the best way. Parliament passed an Act last year which denies people the right to protest within a square kilometre of Parliament without obtaining prior written permission from the police. The Act was essentially concocted to get rid of one man. It does, however, mean that the ever-amusing Mark Thomas gets to organise <'mass lone demonstrations' to protest against it.

I would describe him as the "occasionally amusing but mostly tediously worthy Mark Thomas".

I saw him perform in Cardiff a couple of weeks ago and would say that, on the contrary, Thomas is notable for his non-preachy, blokey non-worthiness. He did go on for some time, though: including the interval, three and a half hours.
